Knightsbridge University -

A brief background

When Knightsbridge University was founded in 1991, the overriding objective was to provide higher education opportunities to the experienced, mature mid-to-late career individual via distance learning. Traditional institutions did not really have the tools or understanding to take into account relevant background and experience when evaluating applicants for eligibility. Also, traditional provision took place in a very ritualistic, formalised setting, with little or no flexibility.

Distance learning as well as the integration of 'mature students' have now largely become mainstream - although there are still pockets of resistance here and there - but the way distance learning is managed and provided by traditional institutions still often leaves a lot to be desired. We offer a unique combination of access, recognition of existing qualifications, and a high level of flexibility in all aspects of our provision.

Over the years, Knightsbridge University has developed a deserved reputation for offering quality over quantity. We do not aim to enrol large numbers of candidates in a pile-them-high scenario. Much better is it to be able to cater in a professional and friendly way to smaller numbers of demanding and discerning candidates, all of whom are dealt with as individuals from the first contact right through to completion.

Since its inception, Knightsbridge University has been a private, fully independent and self-validating institution. We strive to offer high quality programmes to high calibre candidates, a goal which does not sit well with the focus on egalitarianism most often found in systems of public higher education provision. Indeed, such systems habitually consider our type of provision a particular thorn in the side, probably not wanting very much for their paymasters to realise that quality education can be delivered at a tiny fraction of the cost they need to produce it.

It is a fact of recent history, however, that prospective students increasingly also enquire as to the external validation of the University, and this aspect is discussed under the Accreditation headline.
