| DISTANCE LEARNING Distance learning means just what it says. You can study virtually any subject from anywhere in the world, without having to enrol in a full-time residential programme. Higher education now need not be open only to those with the time and financial resources to spare to enter a programme that will likely span several years. The student undertaking a traditional degree course is tied to the location where they have to live and attend lectures for the duration of the course. The flexibility of such a course is negligible, and although the younger school-leaver may not mind, the mature, experienced learner will find the loss of time, income and career progression very unattractive It is also a well-documented fact that a person returning to his or her old position from a course of study will usually find it extremely difficult to apply the contents of their course to their job. It has been estimated that the share of course content actually being applied to real-life situations may be as low as 10% of the newly-gained insight. A candidate undertaking a distance learning programme related to their daily work, on the other hand, will be able to apply a very high proportion of this knowledge, on a day-to-day basis. For many years there have been correspondence courses on a large variety of subjects, but degree level offerings were sparse, and still required the candidate to be available for short or long periods during the programme, as well as for examinations, and entry requirements were very much based on those in place for residential candidates. Many traditional universities have now realised the advantages of distance learning, and have produced external programmes, but often at considerable cost and still requiring the presence of the candidate for seminars and examinations, or in some other ways imposing inflexible rules and regulations. The benefits of distance learning with Knightsbridge University are, therefore, manifold. You will not have to give up your career or lifestyle. You do not have to move - or even travel. You are not restricted by certain hours or terms - we run a never-ending academic year, generally only closed during Christmas and Easter. And, contrary to what you would find in a residential programme, you will be experiencing a true one-to-one relationship with your tutor or supervisor - the only difference is that you will be in different places! Since inception, it has been the single goal of Knightsbridge University to provide quality distance learning programmes, offering the highest possible flexibility to the maximum benefit of candidates, and we are now very much experts in this field. Where demand exists,
we can also offer residential programmes. This would normally require
cohort sizes of not less than 20 candidates enrolling and following the
programme concurrently. Residential programmes should be normally expected
to be significantly more costly than distance learning programmes. |
