Prof. David P. Burkart, PhD, DNM, AB (Hons.) FCIS, FCA,
Professor Burkart has forty five years of experience as a design consultant in visual marketing and presentation disciplines, including exhibition and display design, signage programs, interior design and the development and codification of community graphic standards . Dr. Phill Dixon was made Adjunct Faculty Professor in June 2005. He has had a long career at the cutting edge of technology, engineering and physics. Having worked in high-energy medical physics, safety, reliability and the risk management. These disciplines have mainly been applied to safety critical systems in medical technology and other high-risk industries, such as rail and transport. He is also a senior management consultant and an EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility Professional).
Earlier in Dr. Dixon’s career he was the Chief Engineer of AVS Broadcast where he took on a general management role. It was here that he gained senior management experience in operational and strategic management of twenty-seven SBU’s under the cloak of AVESCO PLC.

Over the past twenty-five years Dr. Dixon has published many mathematically based, technical papers and won many National and International awards after publication. He is a corporate recipient of the EMMY Award For Technology, is cited in 'Who’s Who in The World', and is a commercial Ambassador to the City of London.

Professor Timothy Ka-cheong Lai, Dip PS, BBA (HRM), MBA
Professor Timothy Ka-cheong Lai is residing in Hong Kong.  He has been a Police Officer of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) for 16 years and a recruit police instructor in the Police Training School (PTS) since 2001.  His job nature includes teaching and coaching the police trainees in the area of Laws and Orders, Use of Firearms, Tactical Skills and Disciplines. 

Dr. Alvin Chan, MBCPI, DBA, MBA, PGDE, BA (Merit) (Economics and Southeast Asia Studies)
Currently, Dr. Chan is a Research Consultant at First Quatermain Centre of Collaborative Innovation. In this capacity, he has successfully developed innovative management and psychometric profiling frameworks for use in corporations and educational institutes. In addition, he is a Turnaround Management Consultant (specializing in start-ups and SMEs) and has trained and certified several consultants, on behalf of the Centre.

In the field of academia, Dr. Chan was the Director of Studies (Business Programmes) of a business school in Singapore. He was instrumental in revamping the institute’s business programmes with success by introducing new initiatives to enhance the learning experiences of its undergraduates, especially the use of case-study methods and role-playing.

In the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference on Education 2000, Dr. Chan was selected as a Singapore representative to conduct a workshop on innovation methodology for an appreciative audience of local and international delegates.

Zoltan Laszlo Kiss, Ph.D.(Sociology), MA (International Security and Civil-Military Relations), MA (Sociology), MA (Social Policy), BA (Eng. & Mil.Sc.). Zoltan Laszlo Kiss is an Associate Professor of Sociology of the Department of Sociology of the Miklos Zrinyi National Defence University (Budapest, Hungary). His current research interests encompass security sector reforms and civil-military relations in the new NATO and EU-member CEE countries; lessons learned from current experiences from peace-support operations; CIMIC; contemporary trends of tranformation of military organizations and the military profession, and conversion of military personnel.

Marian Zulean, PhD in (Military) Sociology holds a Master in International Affairs/International Security. Currently is an expert on NATO and US at the Office of the Romanian President and Civic Education Professor at the University of Bucharest.

He is a member of such institutions like the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society (IUS), RC01 of International Sociological Association and ERGOMAS. His main fields of interests are military sociology, civil-military relations, security sector reform, NATO transformation, international affairs (international security institutions and regimes) and global public policies.

Capt (BUL-N) Yantsislav Yanakiev is associated professor  and head of department at Defence Advanced Research Institute (DARI) at Rakovski Defence and Staff College in Sofia, Bulgaria. He graduated from Nikola Vaptsarov” Naval Academy in Varna in 1982 and got Ph.D. degree in sociology from the Institute of Sociology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia in 1995.

Dr. Yanakiev specialized as International Research Fellow at NATO Defence College in Rome, Italy in 1999 (Thesis: Military Co-operation in South Eastern Europe and the Future of Multinational Peace Support Operations)In addition, Dr. Yanakiev did research in the University of Cologne, Germany in 2001 on the topic European Public Opinion and the Development of the Common European Security and Defense Policy: Comparative Analysis of West and East European Public Perceptions 1990-2000.

He is member of the International Sociological Association, Research Committee “Armed forces and conflict resolution” and the European Research Group on Military and Society (ERGOMAS).

Capt. Donna Hopkins heads the Political Military Policy and Planning Branch of the Office of Policy, Plans and Analysis in the U.S. Department of State‘s Bureau of Political Military Affairs.  She served from 1998-2003 as a Foreign Service Officer, with postings in Warsaw, Poland; the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs; and the Office of Mine Action Initiatives and Partnerships in Washington, D.C. 

Prior to joining the State Department, Ms. Hopkins spent 16 years on active duty in the United States Navy, becoming one of the first women officers to serve on ships at sea, and serving overseas in several European countries and the Far East.  Her military experience includes active sea duty on three ships; assignment as Chief of Current Operations for JTF Provide Promise during the 1995 Balkans War; and duty on the staffs of the U.S. Atlantic Command, U.S. Joint Forces Command, U.S. European Command, and several other Navy and joint commands.  Ms. Hopkins graduated with Highest Distinction from the U.S. Naval War College with a Master's Degree in National Security and Strategic Affairs. Still active in the Naval Reserve, she holds the rank of Captain and oversees the six reserve units supporting the Chief of Naval Operations. 

Ms. Hopkins and her husband John, a retired naval officer and information technology manager in the Department of State, live in the District of Columbia.

Prof. Nilufer Narli holds a degree in Education with a major in Philosophy and minor in Sociology; and an M.Sc. in Humanities with a major in Logic, the Philosophy of Science and Philosophy from M.E.T.U, Ankara. She holds a PhD in Social Sciences with a major in Political Sociology from the School of Comparative Social Sciences, University Sains Malaysia. She is a Full professor of Political Sociology in the Faculty of Communication at Kadir Has University. Before being appointed as Dean to the Faculty of Communication in October 2003, she was  a chair of Sociology Department at Marmara University where she also chaired Sociology and Anthropology Department of  the Middle East Studies Institute. Prof. Narli has done research on Islamist movements in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. She also has a strong record of research with European Institutions.  She has been participated in several conferences on European security and civil-military relations in comparative perspective. Prof. Narli has also taken part in the related research projects. She was a trainer in conflict resolution at seminars of the Southeast Europe Leadership Initiatives for Women NGOs in the Balkan countries in 2000 and 2001. She is a member of Middle East and Balkan Studies Institute (Istanbul) and a member of the editorial board of two security publications: Perceptions published by Strategic Research Centre in Ankara and  a quarterly published by Military Academia.

Professor LtCol (Res.) Dmitry Pozhidaev, PhD (Sociology), MA (Linguistics). Professor Dmitry Pozhidaev was a professional officer in the Soviet and Russian Special Forces for 17 years. His teaching experience at that time includes professorship at the Airborne Forces Academy in Russia. He also served as a military liaison officer for the UN Mission in Bosnia where he was awarded with the UN Medal for Peacekeeping.

Professor Pozhidaev published widely on such issues as civil-military relations and civil control in the armed forces, military education, deviant behavior in the army and re-socialization of war veterans.

He served as an expert for research projects and surveys to a number of Russian and international institutions, including the Russian Ministry of Defense, World Bank, Council of Europe and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPU).               

Professor Pozhidaev has been working with the United Nations in the Balkans since 1998. His most recent works focus on UN peacekeeping operations, analysis of ethnic conflicts, conflict prevention and conflict resolution. Professor Pozhidaev is airborne qualified and, besides Russian and English, also speaks French, Persian and Serbo-Croat. pozhidaev@un.org

Ulrich vom Hagen, is a research fellow at the Bundeswehr Institute for Social Research (SOWI), Germany. He holds an M.A. in Public Administration and is currently writing a dissertation on ‘Military Culture’ at the Humboldt University, Berlin. He teaches military sociology at the Humboldt University and at Potsdam University. His current research interests include civil-military relations, organisational and institutional theory, and European integration.

Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Pierre A. Rochefort, MPS, BA, MSM, CD, is a retired Canadian Forces officer and fighter pilot whose most noteworthy accomplishments in the military included commanding a CF-18 fighter squadron and presiding over/co-chairing various boards of inquiry and ministerial committees.  Upon retirement from the military, Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Rochefort joined the Bombardier Aerospace Group and, as Director of market research of the Defence division, successfully led a number of industrial proposals to various government agencies.  Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Rochefort now is the president of Cirrus Research Associates, which is a globally-networked management and market advisory firm engaged in the identification and development of business opportunities in the operational, in-service support, regulatory, and academic segments of the aerospace and defence industries.  He holds a Master of Political Sciences’ degree from Auburn University, Alabama, U.S.A., is a graduate of the United States Air Force’s Air War College and of the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College, and is a certified management coach, teaching modern management principles to public and non-public organisations.

Professor Dr Dimitrios SMOKOVITIS (General (Rd))
Graduated from the Hellenic Military Academy and the Graduate Studies Program of the University of Toulouse. Also, he holds a BA in Political and Economic Sciences of the University of Thessaloniki, a Master in Business Administration of the Economic University of Athens, a Doctorate in Public Law and Political Science of the Law School, University of Thessaloniki, and a Postdoctorate in Military Sociology of the Department of Sociology, Boston College.

Has been Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, Center for International Affairs as scholar of A.ONASSIS Foundation, Visiting Scholar at M.I.T., Sloan School of Management, and scholar of NATO-Hellenic Ministry of Coordination at Cranfield Institute of Technology.

Major J.C. Stone, CD, PhD
Major Craig Stone is a serving Artillery Officer in the Canadian Forces currently employed as a curriculum planner for Strategic Studies at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, Ontario. Major Stone graduated with a BA in Economics from the University of Manitoba in 1988,an MA in War Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1999 and a PhD in War Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada in 2004. In addition to his military duties at the Canadian Forces College, Major Stone lectures on defence economics and defence policy and acts as a mentor and subject matter expert for student research papers.

Dr Eric Ouellet is Director of Academics at the Canadian Forces College (CFC). CFC is Canada's joint Staff and War College. He teaches various topics touching military leadership, command, Canadian demographics, terrorism and asymmetric warfare.

Dr Eric Ouellet is originally from Quebec City, but he has been living in Toronto since 1992. He is fluently bilingual English/French. He completed in 1990 an undergraduate degree in Political Science at Université Laval (Quebec City), specializing in public administration and international relations. Dr. Ouellet also did a Master's Degree in Political Science at Laval, completed in 1992. He wrote his thesis on the organizational structure of quasi-terrorist groups involved in environmental activism. He completed a Ph.D. in Sociology at York University (Toronto) in 1999. In his doctoral dissertation, he studied the organizational and political processes involved in management consultation. His general fields of specialty are Sociology of Organization, Sociology of Knowledge and Political Sociology.

Giuseppe Caforio, is a retired general of the Italian Army. He is president of the Research Committee 01 "Armed Forces and Conflict Resolution" of the International Sociological Association, the Vice President of the Italian Interuniversity Centre of Historical and Military Studies, a founding member and coordinator of a working group in ERGOMAS, as well as a member of several other institutes of research. He is also an outside consultant for the governmental Italian Centre of Strategic and Military Studies. He has a Strategic Sciences degree, a Law degree, a Political Science degree, and a Master's in Communication Science. His recent major publications include: The Sociology of the Military, (1998); (ed.) The European Cadet: Professional Socialisation in Military Academies, (1998): (ed.) The European Officer: A Comparative View on Selection and Education (2000), The Flexible Officer. Professional Education and Military Operation Other Than War: A Cross-national Analysis, (2001); and (ed) Handbook of the Sociology of the Military (2003).

Dr. Gerhard Kümmel is the Senior Researcher at the Bundeswehr Institute for Social Research (SOWI). Academic highlights: Study of Political Science, Sociology and History at the Philipps University Marburg (1985-91); Dissertation Scholarship of the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation (1991-94); Research Scholarship of the German Historical Institute, Washington, D.C. (1992); Post-doc-Scholarship of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG) (1995-97); Lecturer of the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD) at the University of Victoria in Victoria, B.C., Canada (Winter term 1997). In 1996, he was awarded the J. William Fulbright Dissertation Award of the Fulbright-Commission. Dr. Morten Ender earned his B.A. in Sociology from Sonoma State University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Maryland. An award-winning teacher at the University of Maryland and the United States Military Academy at West Point, his publications include forthcoming articles in AF&S and the Journal of Political and Military Sociology and a recent book titled Inequalities: Readings in Diversity and Social Life . He is a member of the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces & Society and is the book review editor for the association's journal, Armed Forces & Society. He is currently the Chair of the Peace, War, and Social Conflict section of the American Sociological Association. His research and teaching interests range and include the self, military sociology, social inequality, and the sociology.

Dr Walsh is an external examiner for Curwen College of Music, London. He is principally active as a composer, singer, organist and choral director, having sung in Chichester and Portsmouth cathedral choirs in the UK over many years. As a countertenor, he has taken part in many choral recordings and recital tours to France, Germany, Switzerland, Estonia, Norway and Denmark, the latter when he was assistant to Martin How at the Løgumkloster International Church Music Festival in 1986. A recent composition has been a commissioned setting of the evening canticles for the men of St Paul’s Cathedral choir in London. He has done much research into 16-18th century music and has published editions with Oxford University Press of works by Weelkes and Reading, as well as his own setting of the Preces and Responses for Chichester Cathedral choir.

Mr John Bellew, MSc John J. Bellew, recently retired from state service, was the Director of the Division of Adult Services for the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Mental Health (OMH). In addition he has administrative supervision of ongoing system development of consumer and community support services and programs throughout the state. He has served as a member of the NACSMHA Division of The National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors and has been an investigator on a number of CMHS systems change grants focusing on issues specific to adults with severe and persistent mental illness. Mr. Bellew is also currently supervising the OMH Office of Consumer Affairs Program, which provides a range of consumer service and support functions associated with the community-based delivery of mental health services.

Rohan Gunaratna is Senior Fellow, Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, University of St Andrews, Scotland and Honorary Fellow, International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism, Israel.

Previously, he was Principal Investigator, Project on Terrorist Escalation and De-escalation, UN Terrorism Prevention Branch; co-Director, Managing Contemporary Insurgencies Project, United Nations University, Japan; and Principal Investigator, Terrorist Information Operations, Defence Evaluation Research Agency, Ministry of Defence, UK.

He holds a Master's in International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame in the US and a Doctorate in International Relations from the University of St Andrews in the UK. He is the author of seven books, including the national best-seller "Inside Al Qaeda: Global Network of Terror."

He has conducted field research in Asia, Middle East, and in Latin America. He is a consultant on terrorism and counter-terrorism to several governments, corporations and international organizations including to the United Nations. Dr. Jerry Brown is the Director of the Foundations of Discovery. He travels the world speaking to educators, business leaders and professionals about the next generation. He uses his extensive knowledge of history and important discoveries to illustrate concepts that entertain and educate.

As Director of the Foundations of Discovery, he works to expand minds and offer stimulating and exciting learning opportunities to all ages. The focus of the Discovery Series is to work with business and educators nationwide encouraging them to incorporate great discovery themes into the teaching day. In doing so students are motivated to excel and exceed current standards. His programs have been accredited at 17 major universities across the USA.

Prof. Martin Hahn PhD - Dr Hahn is currently working a vice principal in the Singapore International School Group in Indonesia. He holds a bachelor and Master of Science degrees in sociology from the prestigious State University Utrecht in the Netherlands. He holds a Phd from Knightsbridge University in sociology obtained in 1994 with distinction. His Phd thesis was on the modernization of health care in the Netherlands and Indonesia. It is a comparative transcultural study which was aimed at finding a universal model of modernization of health care. He has also published many articles 'offline' and online. He has published numerous articles online at ezinearticles.com and more than 140 articles related to management and organisation at articlesgratuits.com. Dr. Martin Hahn has more than 20 years experience in journalism, management consultancy, teaching, and school administration. His special interests lies in the field of education, management, organisation, medical sociology, and organisational behaviour. Head of Faculty - Prof. J R Lee-Barron HKt.B PhD EdD MRSH FSMA FIPS FRSA

Jaimie is a former military advisor and police consultant with years of experience working with the security forces of several countries. He now specialises in the research and development of specialist course programmes for niche markets, being the senior tutor and academic advisor for Nomad Training and Development in the UK, and is an experienced educator, researcher and academic, responsible for the supervision of students undertaking post-graduate research degrees.

He is a high-ranking black belt instructor in several martial arts, and is the Vice Principal, College of Higher Education for Martial Arts, and Vice President of the Society of Martial Arts.
He has recently combined his past experience and qualifications to develop a series of short, intensive courses dedicated to raising awareness levels regarding personal/corporate safety and security, including anti terrorism strategies

In addition, Jaimie holds the position of Dean for academic and quality standards for the International Institute for Specialised Education and Research, and the Faculty of Intelligence Security and Terrorism Studies. He retains membership of the Military Intelligence Corps Association and is a founder member of the United Kingdom National Defence Association.

Prof. George M Scarrott MMA FSMA - Prof. Scarrott is a very well known, well respected teacher of the martial arts having over forty years of experience teaching all over the world. He is a Founder-Fellow of the Society of Martial arts, and is author of several learned articles and papers upon various combat systems.

Prof. Scarrott has also been one of the biggest names in the sport of Kick Boxing in the UK for many years, and now trains Judges, Referees and Corner Staff, as well as British champions.

He has received various honours for his contributions to the world of martial arts, such as a special award for Outstanding Sporting Achievement from Portugal, and the coveted Instructor of the Year Award from the World Federation of Martial Arts.

In addition, being a former member of the Armed Forces, Prof. Scarrott received the Veterans Medal in 2006, for his valued service.

Prof. Matthew Clempner MSc MMA FSMA FIPS FBAPT - Matthew Clempner is recognised as one of the leading Physical Skills instructors in the UK today with over thirty-five years of experience under his belt. He has been a qualified instructor with the Home Office since 1987 and in 1990 became a Trainer of Trainers. Current work includes Officer Safety training, Conflict Management, Expert opinion on training and Personal Safety issues and High Risk Prisoner Detention. He is qualified as a Public Order trainer and trained groups as varied as operational and specialist police units, NHS staff, Military and Security services.

A member of the National Coaching commission for the National Governing Body for Judo registered with Sport UK and the British Olympic Committee, he has been involved with coach development from grass roots level up to and including elite standard.

A former Great Britain international (Judo, Wrestling) Matthew has competed at 1 Olympic Games (1980 Moscow) also 6 World Championships, 8 European Championships and 2 EU championships gaining a total of one gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Also holds the internationally recognized ranks of 6th Dan in Judo (BJA) and Ju Jitsu (BJJA). A National coach for Judo recognized as the most experienced Russian Martial Arts instructor in the UK today he has trained and coached extensively in other countries; 16 times in Russia, twice in Japan and twice in the USA. In 1997 Matthew was awarded ‘International Master of Sport’ in Moscow recognizing his level of achievement.

Prof. Tom Hodgins PhD - Prof. Hodgins is an extremely accomplished academic, having lectured at various universities in Ireland, the USA and the Far East. He is internationally regarded as a leading authority in the fields of Languages and Literature.

In addition to his academic achievements, he is a published author of several books and articles, and is a well recognised martial arts instructor in many countries, having black belt qualifications in both Jiu-Jitsu and Karate.

 In 2002 Prof. Hodgins was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame, and was further honoured in 2007 with a special award from the President of the United States for his services toward the martial arts.

Prof. Paul McVey BSc FIMAS - Prof. McVey is an extremely experienced, well qualified martial artist. As well as having numerous senior black belt instructor certificates in different oriental fighting disciplines, he also holds various titles in Kick- Boxing.

Prof. McVey has a background in the armed forces, and also has extensive experience in the field of personal security, especially Close Protection duties.

Prof. McVey now specialises in the field of Sports Science, and uses his skills in helping disadvantaged young people to modify their attitudes and behaviours.

Prof. Konstantin Tinovitsky PhD - Prof. Tinovitski is one of the most qualified and respected sports coaches and martial arts instructors in eastern Europe, holding the rank of 6th dan black belt in Judo, and is also an accomplished journalist, author and academic.

He has a Doctorate in Physical education and sport, and is an assistant professor at Gubkin University (Moscow)

Prof. Tinovitski has also been the awarded a Special Medal for his contributions to sport, presented to him by President Putin.

DEPARTMENT OF THEOLOGY
Professor Isaac Jadesimi's main fields, of teaching interest, lie in the areas of Theology/Religious Studies, and Philosophy. He read for, and obtained a B.A. degree in Classical Studies, from the University of Wales, in Great Britain. His post-graduate studies involved some periods of time spent, at Yale University, in the United States, the University of Bergen, in Norway, as well as Universities in Canada. He obtained an M.A. degree in Religious Studies (McMaster University), and also an M.A. degree in Philosophy (University of Ottawa). He earned his doctoral degree in Theology/Religious Studies, at the University of Toronto.
